Description
The Cutter-XEG-280-405-660 Linear MCPCB is a printed circuit board (PCB) with an aluminum base that has been specifically developed for use with Cree XEG LEDs. It is designed to facilitate the rapid creation of LED module prototypes using Cree XEG LEDs. The PCB is constructed using UL certified aluminum substrates, ensuring high-quality and reliable performance.
The Cutter-XEG-280-405-660 Linear MCPCB accommodates a total of 16 Cree XEG LEDs in an even mix of 405nm Violet and 660nm Deep Red. The board layout is designed to support two different configurations: either a series configuration with all 16 LEDs connected in a single series circuit, or two separate channels with 8 LEDs each. In the 2 channel configuration, the LEDs are offset to ensure even distribution of light.
This MCPCB has excellent thermal conductivity, with a thermal conductivity rating of 3W/m.k. It provides a non direct thermal path for efficient heat dissipation, helping to keep the LEDs cool and maintain optimal performance. Additionally, there are options available for a full copper construction, providing even better thermal management capabilities.
Overall, the Cutter-XEG-280 Light engine is a versatile and reliable PCB solution for creating LED modules using Cree XEG LEDs. It offers efficient thermal management, excellent light distribution, and is built with high-quality materials to ensure long-lasting performance.

Application Information
Its a good Question?
Eight years ago, we embarked on an innovative journey with the launch of our pioneering Solskin Tunable Board. This journey has been a thrilling ride, marked by groundbreaking achievements and an evolving market perception. Initially, the tunable lighting concept was embraced by forward-thinking OEM lighting companies, recognising the immense potential to customize lighting environments with precision and creativity. The ability to create recipe-based control systems has been nothing short of revolutionary, offering unparalleled flexibility in lighting design.
However, we’ve noticed that the transformative power of tunable lighting has yet to be fully discovered by the broader audience. It’s time to change that narrative. The world of smart home technology and IoT has rapidly evolved, making it the perfect time for everyone to embrace the future of lighting.
Imagine a world where your lighting adapts to your needs, mood, and environment with just a few taps on your smartphone or a simple voice command. This is no longer the domain of high-tech companies or luxury homes. Thanks to advancements in technology, the power of Tunable Boards is now accessible to everyone. With the integration of powerful yet affordable microcontrollers like Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and ESP32, combined with user-friendly phone apps and browser controls, customizing your lighting has never been easier or more affordable.
Gone are the days of complex installations and prohibitive costs. While the price of drivers has remained stable, the overall cost of owning a tunable lighting system has significantly decreased. Control systems are now more intuitive, ensuring that anyone can tailor their lighting without stepping out of their comfort zone.
Step into the future with us. Transform your space with lights that adjust to your life, creating the perfect control for every requirement.
Don’t let the opportunity to redefine your lighting experience pass you by. It’s time to move beyond the conventional, embrace innovation, and see your world in a new light. Join us on this illuminating journey and discover the endless possibilities of tunable lighting.
Like all led products they need to be powered
Sixteen Leds in Series
Ignoring for the moment control, the Cutter-XEG-280-405-660 Linear MCPCB has two options. It can be used as a non tunable light source by just running the 2 channels, together in series. This would require, nominally 48V in Constant Voltage and a similar sub range of 48V for Constant Current based on specifics of the vf of the strings and choice of current. Example of this would be 43.8 volts for the two combined strings at 1Amp and would operate at 43.8 Watts. Based on this you would need at least a 50 watt Led driver or varying power supply’s types dependent on actual drive current choices
Two strings of 8 Leds
This is a little more interesting. Typically you may want two drivers to power each channel, however in the control section we will discuss a controller option requiring only a single driver. For straight drive options you would need min 25 -30 watts per channel, 24v for CV or a sub range of 24v based on specifics of the vf of the strings and choice of current.
Control of 24V Constant Voltage
Based on Constant Voltage configuration, the board becomes controllable via low cost controllers. we recommend the Shelly RGBW2 device. While the part number may seem to indicate RGBW as the Led source, in reality the device is just a 4 channel control device that can be controlled via Phone apps or browsers and Complete systems like Home Assistant
